What is TEMPRO?
TEMPRO is a software service developed for you by Toshiba. As a Toshiba user you do not have to worry about searching internet sites for software driver updates, warranty updates or service bulletins for your laptop, as TEMPRO will inform you if there is anything important you should know about. It will also raise an alert if you are about to run out of disk space before you try to save a large file and advise you on how to best utilise the memory.

Once you have activated the service you will receive these alerts into a special TEMPRO inbox area. The service will not run unless you have agreed to this.

What data does TEMPRO collect?
TEMPRO only collects anonymous usage data from your PC to help you to improve the performance of your laptop and decide what alerts should be shown to you. This data doesn’t include any personal information about you but looks at the serial number, laptop model number, language, country code and hardware performance values. Toshiba has a strict privacy policy which gives full details on what data is collected and how it is used.

How do I get to use TEMPRO?
TEMPRO may either be preloaded on your laptop or it can be downloaded from our website.

If TEMPRO is preloaded, click on the Windows 7 "Start menu" and select "All Programs".

What type of alerts does TEMPRO show?
The first time you connect to the internet and TEMPRO is running, you will receive a Welcome Message. This indicates that TEMPRO is working correctly and that alerts can be sent from the Toshiba Support Centre to your laptop. You can receive three different types of alerts.

Service Alerts
TEMPRO is an easy and convenient way of keeping up-to-date with important service messages and new software and driver updates from Toshiba. These are specific to your laptop model. TEMPRO will not automatically update or download software to your PC, it will always ask you to do this by showing you a link to a web page.

Laptop Performance Alerts
TEMPRO will check the performance of your laptop and advice on how to fine tune its usage, such as memory and disk drives. Your PC does not need to be connected to the internet as these alerts are displayed automatically when a certain condition occurs. The alerts will give you details of the condition and suggest ways of fixing it.

If no action is taken and the same condition continues to exist, the alert will show once every week to keep you informed. You can deactivate any of these specific individual alerts at anytime.

New TEMPRO Software Release Alerts
Occasionally Toshiba may issue a new release of the TEMPRO software and you will receive a special alert informing you of this. A web link will take you directly to the download page so that you can update your software.

How important are these TEMPRO alerts?
Each alert that you receive will be colour coded according to its importance:

Grey (Information)

Amber (Warning) These are warning messages that a condition has occurred

Red (Critical) Some immediate action is needed to rectify the situation)

How often will I receive these alerts?
Laptop performance alerts, such as disk space and memory, will be raised as soon as they are detected as your PC does not need to be connected to the internet.

For all other alerts TEMPRO will check with the Toshiba Support Centre when you connect to the internet, to see which messages are specific to your Toshiba laptop model. Service messages will be checked every day, driver alerts and TEMPRO software releases will be checked once a week.

Will TEMPRO automatically update my laptop with new software?
TEMPRO will not automatically update or download software to your laptop PC, it will always ask you to do this by asking you to click on a link.

How do I start or stop the TEMPRO service from running?
You can select to run the TEMPRO service in one of the following ways:

Full Monitoring (recommended)

TEMPRO will raise laptop performance alerts, service alerts and software driver updates for your specific model. To start the TEMPRO service and receive full monitoring, select the Enable option.

No Monitoring
TEMPRO will not raise any alerts. To stop the TEMPRO service completely, select the Disable option. To start the service again at a later date you will need to click on the Toshiba TEMPRO program in the Windows 7 Start Menu and select the Enable option.

How do I read my new alert messages?
New service alerts are received into your Current Alerts area in TEMPRO when you connect to the internet. A check is made on the laptop model and whether there are any alerts that are associated with that model and country/language version.

When a new alert is generated you will see a pop-up message appear at the bottom right of your screen. You can click on this message or the TEMPRO icon in the system tray to read your alerts.

Alerts are displayed in date and time order and you can browse through these current alerts using the NEXT and the PREVIOUS buttons. Once you have read an alert, click on the Mark as Read option and it will be moved to your Alert History.

How do I refer back to an old alert message?
Once you have selected Mark as Read, the alert moves into the Alert History area. Your last 100 alerts will be listed here in date and time order. To view the details, click on the individual alert.

If the alert has been monitoring a specific condition (such as memory) and no action is taken, the alert will be shown every week to keep you informed that the condition still exists. You can Deactivate this specific alert and you will not be reminded again.

What if I want to temporarily stop TEMPRO messages popping up?
Sometimes you may want to temporarily stop messages popping up at the bottom of your screen, particularly if you are using your Toshiba laptop to run a presentation to other people. You can stop these pop-ups from appearing by clicking on the TEMPRO icon in the System Tray and selecting Exit. When the laptop is rebooted then the TEMPRO pop-up messages will re-enabled.

What happens if I select Warranty Status?
It will look up your serial number and retrieve information, held centrally by Toshiba, on the current warranty status for your specific laptop. You will be able to see the type of warranty cover and, if you have registered, you will be able to see the start and expiry dates.

How do I change an incorrect Serial or Part number?
The serial number and part number of your laptop are retrieved automatically and this information is used to ensure you are sent the correct alerts. The details appear in the red bar at the bottom of the TEMPRO screen. If these are incorrect then you can manually change these by selecting the Update Serial and Part Number option.

If you still see an error message saying that your serial number is wrong, click on the CANCEL button and then it will be accepted.

Why does TEMPRO not run when connecting to the internet using authenticated proxy?
When you try to use TEMPRO, the Microsoft Operating Systems verifies whether it is a genuine Toshiba program before it is launched. If your laptop uses authenticated proxy to connect to the internet, the application will not be able to verify the authenticity, as it requires username and password to connect to the internet. Due to the delay in the process of attempting to connect to the internet (> 30 sec), the OS decides the TEMPRO program has stopped working and closes it. The solution is to disable basic authentication, where possible, or use a proxy that doesn’t need authentication.
