Visual Inspection of Battery Packs (Toshiba Voluntary Battery Exchange
Program)
Within the Toshiba Voluntary Battery Exchange Program there are two types
of batteries that are potentially affected and which are subject to a free of
charge replacement. In order to determine if your battery is affected and therefore
covered by this program, you should follow the inspection instructions as detailed
below:-
- Switch off the notebook and disconnect the mains adapter from the system.
- Remove the battery pack from the notebook.
- Depending on the battery type installed into the notebook, follow the steps
as detailed below to identify whether the battery is affected based around
the information contained on the battery label.
| Battery Type 1 – Bar Code Label with Alphanumeric
Characters Printed on a Single Line |
|
a) |
Locate the bar coded label as shown in Figure 1 below and
check the first eleven (11) alphanumeric characters as indicated. In the
event that these characters match any of the six sets of characters detailed
in Table 1 you should proceed to Step (b) otherwise, if the characters do
not match, your battery is not affected and no further action will be required. |

On the same bar coded label, check the four (4) alphanumeric
characters that immediately follow the second hyphen as indicated in Figure
2. In the event that these characters match any of the criteria as detailed
in Table 2, your battery is potentially affected and qualifies for the exchange
program – in this situation you should continue to Step (c) below. |

If the two items of information detailed in Steps (a) and
(b) indicate that you have a potentially affected battery, you should document
the entire battery reference number, as highlighted in Figure 3 below, before
referring to the section WHAT TO DO NEXT below:- |
