| Q1: |
Why did Toshiba launch a voluntary battery pack replacement
program for some of its computers? |
| |
| A1: |
In consideration of the voluntary replacement program announced by
Sony Corporation, we have decided to participate in Sony’s voluntary replacement
program of battery packs, in order to ensure customer confidence in using our computers. |
| |
|
| Q2: |
Is there a safety problem with Toshiba computers? |
| |
| A2: |
Sony confirmed to Toshiba that the Sony batteries eligible for free replacement used in certain Toshiba portable computers are not subject to the same problem that caused the recalls issued by certain computer manufacturers last year. The Toshiba design and protection system in those Toshiba portable computers is different than those of other PC vendors. After the announcement by Sony Corporation, and in order to ensure customer satisfaction, Toshiba has decided to participate in Sony’s global battery pack replacement program and is offering Toshiba customers a free replacement of certain battery packs identified by Sony. |

| Q4: |
How can I recognize a subject battery pack and check it? |
| |
| A4: |
Toshiba has provided a BatteryCheck utility to help determine if
the battery pack installed in a portable computer may be subject to the replacement program.
Please download and run the BatteryCheck
Utility. If you cannot or do not want to download the utility, a battery pack can
be identified visually by following the instructions in the Manual
Battery Identification document. |
| |
|
| Q5: |
How can I replace the battery pack? Can a person not very familiar
with computers replace the battery pack? |
| |
| A5: |
Yes. The User’s Manual for your Toshiba portable computer includes
specific instructions on battery removal and installation. It is not difficult for a
user to replace the battery pack by following these instructions. |
| |
|
| Q6: |
Am I required to return the subject battery pack after it is
replaced? |
| |
| A6: |
Yes. You will be provided with instructions and packaging materials
with prepaid return shipping for returning the replaced battery pack to Toshiba. Certain
country and/or federal laws make it illegal to dispose of batteries in your household
waste. Please return the replaced battery pack to Toshiba for proper recycling and/or
disposal. |
| |
|
| Q7: |
What should I do if the BatteryCheck Utility does not seem to
be working on my system? |
| |
| A7: |
The utility does not work on a computer other than the identified
models. If the utility does not work as expected on the identified models, you may choose
to inspect your battery pack visually by removing it from the portable computer and examining
the attached label. See the Manual
Battery Identification document for more details. |

| Q8: |
Toshiba announced another battery pack exchange program recently.
Does this issue have anything to do with the former exchange program? |
| |
| A8: |
No. The voluntary battery pack exchange program announced on September
19 is not related to this program. The identified models are also different. For information
regarding the September 19, 2006 announcement, please visit click here |
